However, I could not wear them until I found the perfect strapless bra for it. Having a fuller bust on a small frame, I have always struggled with finding the right bra size. Until 3 months earlier I did not realize I had been wearing the wrong size my entire life. Bra-shopping had been relegated to my mother even after I was shopping myself. So I wore 36C based on my mom’s best judgment and some lingerie salesman/woman who had not even seen me. (most likely a salesman since 99% of the times I saw lingerie shops had male salesmen back in the days.)
Well, I was compelled to do my own lingerie shopping when I moved overseas for my higher studies and I realized that there was not only a number but also a letter which comes into factor. That was one more variable and to make matters worse the sizes were denoted differently in France. I still remember my helpless feeling at Princess Tamtam , Chantelle, Darjeeling trying on innumerable bras, decoding French sizing and trying to read and speak French when I did not know any. Confused more than before, I bought a range of numbers from 90 to 95 of whatever was available after a long shopping spree. I still have those bras unused because I clearly bought the wrong sizes.
In the meanwhile, the variety of bra sizes and more so my knowledge of it has expanded and I decide to try out some fancy shops in Forum mall in Kolkata. Here the women were patient enough to understand my requirements and offer options from various brands instead of convincing me that whatever they had was right for me. In fact they recommended me a 34D, when I had thought I was a 36 all my life and I did not even know a D existed. Happy to have finally found the right size, I went back a couple of months later to repurchase bras in the same size from the same shop when I was told by another saleswoman that a 36E was a better fit for me. I could see why and I thought that it would be me final and most accurate size.
I was wrong, again.
You will know why in the next blog in this series. Click here toead the next blog and know how I can wear this favourite top (linked below) now without any worries.

I can relate to not wearing the “right” bra for many years. I finally got measured the right way and what a difference it makes. And yes, D’s are made and so are DD’s…lol
As a 32f I always struggle to find a decent strapless bra, not least because I hate padding with a passion and almost all strapless bras are padded…. It also took my a long time to find my size, I was wearing a 34e for the longest time and wondering why I had to keep the straps on the smallest setting just to keep it in place. Needless to say now that I’ve found the right size (mostly by trial and error in the changing room) I am now much more comfortable.
Yeah, thats another issue with bras in general and specially strapless-ones. Padding. Did you find a brand which does non-padded 32Fs?
I usually buy the curvy Kate brand, great support and non padded. I’ve yet to try and find a strapless from them mind….the best I’ve managed to find is “moulded cups” which is about as thin a padding as you can get.
Okay, will check Kate brand out. I did find a good strapless bra with a thin lining though. My fitter convinced me that it is required for bigger cup sizes (I guess because the lining and wiring is required to support the bigger breasts without the aid of straps ) and she said that she does not even know of brands which does non-lined strapless bras. More in the next blog, stay tuned 🙂
I can see why she would say that, but I have had one strapless non padded bra (years ago now) and it was a dream, I just can’t remember what it was. I’ll keep my eye out though, and I’ll stay tuned on the blog!
Love this outfit with the pop of color on the shoes. I’m a huge fan of black and white outfits.
I remember wearing a 36A as a teenager and my mother taking me to get fitted for a bra only to find out that I should have been in a 36D the whole time.
I am not a huge fan of off the shoulder. I love how it looks, but I don’t like how it feels. This top is a great compromise with the neckline though. I love it.
Yeah! Its more like a cold-shoulder.
Cute top, and I like polka dots design.
I never got an issue with bra pairing coz I never wear a bra. Its a huge hassle for me. I rely on nipple tapes if I need to hide it.
You are lucky! I am not sure they even have nipple tapes for my cup size.
I recenlty had a professional to a bra size on me and I was wearing the worng size for decades. It was such a game changer and I look a lot better with the right size:)
Absolutely! The right fit not only makes a difference to the comfort but also to the overall look.
I have yet to find the perfect strapless bra so I feel you on bra struggles! haha, I love your whole outfit! Work it girl!

I love the top! I have broader shoulders so I feel like I can’t pull off tops like that! I do agree though that fittings are so important – I just guessed for a long time because I didn’t want to talk to any of the employees at the stores, but getting sized was a really good call.
Girl I’m with you, I actually had a smaller chest until I had my daughter now I’m a C/D and I’m having a hard time finding a good bra. I wear a lot of dresses that I used to go braless with but I can’t do that anymore. I’m for sure following a long!
Thanks for following along
You look gorgeous and stunning! I love wearing off shoulders and your top is amazing!
Thanks 🙂
